If you didn't catch our last post, we have launched a NEW product!!  We mentioned a portion of the proceeds of The Payton tee benefitting a family in the process of adopting.  We are so excited for you to get to know them a little better!! 

Meet the Manuel family!

Megan, Myles, Michael, and Maddox

Megan writes a family blog called MandM's where you can find out all about their family, their adoption process, and bringing their little girl, Marlee, home!  Here's a little bit from her latest update:

"... In November of 2014 we found out that our agency we had been with for four years to pursue our Ethiopian adoption was telling us that they felt they were unable to continue processing adoptions from Ethiopia.  They are keeping their program open as long as they can just in case, and our paperwork will stay there until they shut it down, but they told us to move on if we wanted to bring a child home. ... For months after we received the news from Ethiopia we have been grieving our plans and expectations and praying for God to continue to guide us to our child. ... We are compiling all our paperwork right now to adopt a little girl from China with a new agency. aka-starting completely over!! ... Through every bump and twist on the road, God has been with us, faithfully providing what we need, and growing our faith...this is the reward, not a child; but more of Jesus.  ... it is bringing about so much dependance on the Lord, and so much faith growth, and compassion for others who are waiting-especially on children, that I'm glad it's been hard...but I'm ready for a child whenever!" 

(Since her latest post, the Manuel family celebrated the birth of a new little guy, Maddox!!)

Their adoption journey has been a long, hard climb from pursuing adoption from Ethiopia, to domestic adoption, to pursuing adoption from China... Megan shares a portion of Jeremiah 29:11 which says, 

"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"

What a perspective to have as they trust in the Lord's timing!  Knowing God's calling is one thing, but actually living it out is SO hard!  Megan and Michael are a living testimony to faithfully living out God's calling.  They've persevered through many changes in their pursuit to bring Marlee home!  Would you consider sharing in our efforts to support this sweet family?  The Lord has given them a desire minister to the fatherless through adoption, and we couldn't be happier to support their ministry!

We are SO excited to launch a brand new product!  The Payton tee is one that you'll definitely want to check out!

We are proud to bring you a versatile T-shirt that can easily be worn on a night out with friends or with your favorite yoga pants!  Our hand-drawn design is slightly distressed and is printed on a classic V-neck shirt that fits and feels like a well-loved favorite.  We worked with 52Threads to bring you an awesome product!

Along with our new launch, we are excited to come alongside adoptive families and organizations by donating at least 10% of our total sales.  The Payton tee will benefit one of our friend's adoption, and we look forward to sharing a little bit about them soon!

Shopping Party: Blanket Scarf

Friends, we are so, so excited for our upcoming Shopping Party!  We are so grateful for the support we received at the Lone Tree Folk Festival.  Y'all are truly the greatest!  Now that we're gearing up for the party, we want to give you a preview of a few of the items we'll be selling!

Everyday Threads

I've been stuck in rut.

I literally have been wearing workout clothes EVERYDAY.  'Good Job, Jess!' you may say...

But, no.  I fell off the P90X wagon soon after telling you about it... I am NOT working out everyday...

I feel like I need to wear my workout clothes so it LOOKS like there's a reason I look grubby.  Tell me I'm not the only one!  Plus, yoga pants are dabomb.com... don't even try to argue with that one!

It took a teensy bit more effort to get ready this morning, but it was worth it.  I have nothing special happening today... but changing diapers is a little more 'fun' with lipstick on!

Outfit deets:  LOVE my head wrap (gift from ROX!) from Oh, Sweet Joy.  I have 2 day old hair so it's getting a little rough.. My head wrap makes dressing cute a little more possible!  She has a lot of prints and different styles.

Just scored my sandals from Target for $15! Score!

Target jeans are fantastic. Cheap and quite a few styles to choose from.. I have high-waisted skinnies (comfy and stretchy!) that are PERFECT for post-baby bodies!  I can't wait to style them to showcase the fantastic waistline of these jeans!  They are very modern-meets-vintage.

In between our random temperature drops, we've had some FANTASTIC spring weather.  And in Mississippi, we don't have very long until we are dripping with sweat. So I'm enjoying it while I can with my spring-y clothes!

People, I got my piko-style shirt for FIVE BUCKS from Wal-Mart.  It's so comfy, forgiving, and awesome.  Plus, who can beat a $5 shirt?  I can tell it will make its appearance on many occasions this spring and summer.

Dreaming of Summer.......(Wide-Brimmed Hats & Retro Swim)

I don't know what weather is like in your neck of the woods, but our temps are in the 30s this morning.

The 30s.

In April.

So, while I'm sitting here wrapped up in a warm blanket and drinking an oversized mug of hot coffee,   I'm also dreaming of warmer days.

Summer, please come soon.

And one trend I am loving for those warm sunny days are the wide-brimmed hats.

Freezer Paper Stencil.....and Giveaway date announced!

Well, baseball season is upon us.

My oldest is playing for the first time, and I can honestly say, I had no idea how much it entailed.  (I think I owe my parents some extra thanks for running me and my two sisters around to our various sports and club meetings for years.  Whew!)

All that to say, we decided to let our oldest (who's only 14 months older) play something first.

I had no idea how much that would affect our youngest.  

They are so close in age that they do practically everything together, so I've tried to come up with some ways to make our youngest feel special while his older brother is getting to play a sport and get all new gear.

Don't get me wrong, J LOVES going to his brother's games, and I think it is good for them to do things separately, but I thought it would be fun for him to have a special shirt to wear to support the team.

PLUS, I've been itching to make my own Freezer Paper Stencil.

Win.  Win.

To begin, you'll need Freezer Paper (of course), fabric paint, and a sponge brush.

(You'll need an iron in a couple minutes, so get that ready.)

1.  This picture just shows the look I was going for.  I planned on using the stencil to create the same number as E's and then using the fabric pen (pictured above) to write 'Eli's Bro' above it.
2.  I cut a small piece of Freezer Paper and traced the two from the back of E's shirt.
3.  Cut out shape with scissors.
4.  Place and iron on Freezer Paper stencil to back of shirt.
5.  Use sponge brush to apply fabric paint.  I used a hair dryer to speed up the drying process because I wanted to do another layer of paint.  Use sponge brush to apply second layer of paint.
6.  Let it dry for 10 minutes or so before carefully removing stencil.

And you're done!

I think the fabric paint is supposed to set for 72 hours before being washed.

I haven't finished the lettering on the front and back but will post pictures as soon as I do!

This project was very simple.

Jessie used a similar process to make her boy and my two boys some Star Wars pajamas for Christmas.  She shirt has a Darth Vader silhouette and are by far my boys favorite thing to wear to bed.  She'll have to post hers soon!

Stone Statement Necklace -tutorial-

I love necklaces.

I think it's because a necklace can transform a plain outfit into a stylish one!  T-shirt and jeans become a fashion statement when you add a pretty necklace.

Today, I want to share an easy necklace you can make yourself! 

Here's what you need:

Hot glue gun // felt (Wal-Mart - 50 cents) // stones/pebbles (Dollar Tree - $1) // ribbon (Wal-Mart - $1.50) // beading wire (JoAnn's - $???)

1.  Cut felt into desired shape of the 'bib' portion of the necklace.  This will just be a rough cut.

2.  Play around with the placement of the stones.  Be sure to take a picture to remember where the stones fit best.

3.  Carefully hot glue the stones to the felt and each other.  I had to use the hottest setting and used quite a bit of glue!  It was nearly impossible to keep the glue from peering through the cracks.

-After all the glue dries, carefully trim the excess felt around the edges.

4.  Wrap the beading wire in between cracks of the rocks.  Use as little or as much wire as desired!

5.  Feed the ribbon through a loop of wire towards tip of the bib.  Cut to desired length.  I also put a dab of glue between the ribbon and felt AND tied a gentle knot in the ribbon.

6.  Secure the necklace in the back with a bow.

YOU'RE DONE!

This necklace would look great with beads, rhinestones, painted stones, buttons, etc.

Drab to Fab: Tribal Print using Freezer Paper

We've ALL seen the tribal print craze.  Leggings, purses, shirts, jackets, scarves, pockets, and more and more and more!  Here's a way to join the trend (or add to your tribal print collection!) without spending much or ANY money!

1.  Draw your favorite tribal print on the paper-y side of freezer paper with a pencil.  (There's a waxy side, too.)  Before you draw, decide the size you'd like your print so you don't have to erase a bunch of times!

2.  Using an Exact-O Knife, carefully cut out the print to create the negative.  Iron the print with the waxy side DOWN.  Smooth out/iron down the fabric first to avoid bubbles and creases.

3.  I chose to use Martha Stewart's Multi-Surface craft paint.  I'm unsure of the durability of regular craft paint on fabric, and the only color of fabric paint I had on hand was black!  (Look back HERE to see where else I used this metallic paint!)

4.  Carefully dab the paint onto the fabric in the negative space.  Make sure to put cardboard or extra freezer paper in the middle of the shirt to prevent bleed-through.  

After deciding if you need another coat of paint, carefully peel off the freezer paper.  (My favorite part!!)  I chose to do only one coat of paint and peeled the paper off immediately after finishing.

Be careful to follow instructions for the fabric paint!  Some paints suggess letting the paint 'cure' for 48-72 hours, then heat-setting the fabric either with an iron or in dryer.

Now it's time to rock that print!  You can obviously choose a more intricate pattern to paint, but I like ease and time to be on my side in my projects!  This was literally a 30 minute deal.  You can make it even EASIER by printing out the tribal print from a template.  But we don't have a printer... bummer.

Stuck in a Rut?

How many times do you look in your closet and just wanna cry like you did at 13 because you 'have NOTHING to wear!!!!' 

Please tell me I'm not crazy..

I get stuck in a fashion rut at times.. I then have to find inspiration to use what I already have in my closet and create a NEW outfit!  It's at times more thrilling than buying new clothes!

I tend to gravitate towards the styles that promote comfort.. kiddos at home require ease of movement, am I right?  So I've compiled a small collection of comfortable styles that you can possibly draw from your OWN closet:

Fall Trend: Ankle Boots

I know I am a little late jumping on the ankle boot/booties band wagon (I blame it on quickly approaching the age of 30 and having a slight resistance to change), but, nevertheless, I'm finally loving this trend!

And every time I look in my closet for something to wear, I find myself thinking how much cuter an outfit would be if it was paired with ankle boots.  (Am I the only weird one out there who does this type of thing?  Surely not.  SURELY.)

And as much as I LOVE Pinterest, inevitably, when I search "ankle boots" or "booties", I find the perfect pair only to click on it and find out they cost $600.

Ok, I know that is a little bit of an exaggeration, but $200 and $600 may as well be the same thing - they both fall in the "out of my budget" category.

SO, I thought I would compile a list of a few of my favorites from stores I would actually shop at (Target, Shoe Carnival, Modcloth, etc.).  There are still a couple from these stores that are a little pricey, but much more within reach, especially if you pair them with an online coupon!

What are your thoughts on ankle boots?  Have you found any other stores that are fairly inexpensive?

(Did I just totally age myself with that phrase??  I should see how often I can say that in everyday conversation and keep a straight face....)

Do your mini-me's like getting their hair done??  My gal is usually loves it.  We either watch a show with a snack OR sit in mommy's bathroom and play with my make-up brushes or whatever won't break.

I just did a french twist down either side and met the twists in the middle with a clear hairband.  I twisted her tiny pony into a bun and secured it with a couple bobby pins.

I usually spray down her hair (with water) first so it's easier to handle, and then I use a light hold hairspray to set it.

Geometric Print Drape Front Cardi {tutorial}

I went through a stage where I felt like I needed to get ALL solid printed clothing so it would be versatile... 

SO... what do you do if you need more patterns in your wardrobe without spending the bucks?

Do. It. Yourself.

Here's how I added a little pattern to a piece in MY wardrobe:

1.  I grabbed a plain black knit drape front cardi from my closet that I NEVER wear...

2.  Using a sheet of foam from the craft store (with adhesive on the back), I cut a couple triangles and attached them to a jar lid to create a stamp.  I used Martha Stewart's Metallic Gold acrylic paint and a foam brush to paint the stamp.

3.  After deciding to alternate the triangles pointing up then down, I started stamping in the middle on the bottom of the back of the cardi.  I didn't worry about perfect spacing or clean stamping.  On each 'drape', I stacked the triangles higher so the triangles would be more noticeable when worn.

-  After the paint dried, I threw the cardi in the dryer to 'set' the paint.

And that's it!

I know this piece will get a lot more use now that I updated it with a little pattern!  I can't wait to try this with a lighter colored cardi and and darker paint...  I'm thinking an aztec feel!
